The Speaker of Kenya’s the National Assembly, Justin Muturi warned Obama not to encroach on the country’s social fabric by speaking about homosexuality or risk sanction from the parliament.
In remarks that echoed sentiments from five other Members of Parliament at a church fundraiser, Muturi asked Obama to respect the faith and morals of Kenyans.
In a country where gay sex is punishable by 14 years in prison, such opinions are not unusual as witnessed by the handful of protesters in the capital Nairobi gathered to protest homosexuality ahead of Obama’s visit.
A group of Kenyans took to social media under the hashtag #KenyansMessageToObama to push an anti-gay message.
In his previous trip to Africa in 2013, Obama made a statement in support of gay-rights prompting Senagalese President Macky Sall to remind him that his country was not ready to decriminalize homosexuality.
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest confirmed to reporters that there would be no constraints on what Obama will discuss during his trip to Kenya.

14 years in prison? Really? Why a population would be opposed to someone’s sexual preference is way beyond me. Seriously, why someone would be offended by something that doesn’t affect them is mind-boggling. Anyone opposed to homosexuals should be ashamed of themselves.
I hope Obama has the courage to stand up for civil rights and put a stop the homophobic nonsense.

The 14 year prison sentence does not make sense. It’s a statute that’s existed in the books since colonial days.
