In an exclusive interview with UK Newspaper ‘The Guardian’, CORD leader Raila Odinga congratulated Dr. John Pombe Magufuli for emerging victorious from the grueling CCM nomination process to contest for Tanzania’s Presidency later this year.

Speaking from Nairobi, the Former Prime Minister said Dr. Magufuli is up to the task, describing him as an experienced leader with vision and a firm belief in fast-tracking of the EAC integration process for expedited economic and social development of the region.

Mr. Odinga also expressed his profound acknowledgement of CCM’s order and efficiency in the Presidential nomination process, citing them as an example worth emulating across Africa.

On gender parity, Odinga said Tanzania took a great step worth borrowing a leaf from by lining up it’s first potential female vice-president Hon. Samia Hassan Suluhu. Hon. Suluhu is the current Minister of State for Union Affairs and current Member of Parliament for Makunduchi constituency in Zanzibar. She was selected by Dr. Magufuli as his running-mate.

A key deciding factor leading to Dr. Magufuli’s victory was his stand on corruption, a platform he firmly shares with CORD Leader. Dr. Magufuli was among dignitaries who endorsed Raila Odinga’s bid for Presidency in the 2013 Elections, and is expected to echo similar sentiment ahead of Kenya’s 2017 Election.

It will be remembered that Dr. Magufuli who is a personal friend to Mr. Odinga, earlier in the year represented outgoing President Jakaya Kikwete at his son’s funeral the late Fidel Makarios Odinga where he delivered a moving eulogy.
